Choosing residential proxies for web scraping
Reliable web scraping depends less on raw pool size than on appropriate, well-controlled requests. Residential proxies are one part of a strategy covering concurrency, retries and headers.
1. Start with the destination
Proxy requirements differ across ecommerce, social and search sites; some public-data sites work with datacenter proxies. Begin with a small Residential proxies sample and compare results.
2. Concurrency and sticky sessions
- Stateless tasks can use rotating residential exits.
- Authenticated workflows should keep a session for the task.
- Distributed tasks can consistently assign URLs to separate regional sessions using a International IPs。
3. Headers and TLS characteristics
Keep client headers consistent with the actual client and chosen language. Browser automation such as Playwright can reproduce a browser environment for authorized testing.
4. Timeouts and retries
Use separate connect and read timeouts, for example 5 and 15 seconds. Retry failures 2–3 times with exponential backoff and, where appropriate, change the proxy exit instead of repeatedly retrying one unavailable exit.
5. Logs and data processing
Record exit IP, location, status and response size. Compare regional Residential IPs pool performance periodically to improve your workflow.
